The first Swiss GAA game day of the year took place in Bern on Saturday 18th May 2024 and was a roaring success. In total, 38 players took to the field on the day. The Midlands club had everything organised with typical Swiss precision and everything went off without a hitch. It was focused on hurling and camogie There werew three teams on the day – Basel, Zurich & Midlands and we played each team twice. Basel beat Zurich twice and won one game and lost one game against Midlands. Basel were aided on the day by players based in Geneva, Lausanne, Stuttgart and few stalwarts from our great neighbours Zurich. The standard on show was very high and it bodes well for the year ahead. This year, we have amalgamated the three clubs in hurling and camogie and will take to the field combined as Team Switzerland. These Swiss game days are vital for bringing everyone together, exposing new players and allowing the “experienced” players knock off some rust ahead of the European championship.
