Cúl Camp Frankfurt 21/22 Sept 2024

Over 20 children from Basel GAA and their families travelled to Frankfurt for a Cúl Camp hosted by Frankfurt GAA.  The children, aged 5-16 made their way to the Frankfurt GAA facility in Nied, where they were joined by 35 children from the Frankfurt club to make it one of the biggest Cúl Camps in Europe of the summer.

A group of coaches from Frankfurt supported by the Cúl Camp coach from Westport, Cormac, did a fantastic job in running the Cúl Camp on both Saturday and Sunday.    It was great to watch all the players fully engaged in the camp.  The camp activities were based on a player-centered games approach with a strong emphasis on personal development.

At the end of both days there were some mini games and it was inspiring to see the children from both clubs playing on mixed teams also organising their own teams on the field and playing together.  Over the weekend friendships blossomed between the kids of both clubs, with all the kids receiving a bag, ¼ zip track suit top & t-shirt.

Meanwhile, the parents also had a great time in Frankfurt. There was a dinner on the Friday night, with a bit of a sing song later.  Guest musician Donnchadh Mc Carthy improved the singing of some who shall remain nameless in the hotel bar…… and of course the Pizza, beer and soft drinks on Saturday night was self-catered, after a dash to REWE.  What a resourceful group!!

It would be remiss if we didn’t thank the Frankfurt GAA Club for extending a warm invitation and welcome to our club to join the Cúl Camp. Thanks for organising a great two days and the Cúl Camp gear for all of our players.

We would also like to thank our wonderful parents and players who were so enthusiastic and traveled to be there on the weekend; it is a big commitment and really appreciated. All in all a great Cúl Camp and weekend, with many people playing a part in helping to make the trip a success.   As a club we hope to look forward to organising our own Cúl Camp in 2025!
