Happy New Year and welcome to 2026! I’m delighted to be writing to you as I step into the role of Chairperson of Basel GAA. It’s an honour to serve our club and community here in Basel.
The new committee has already been busy planning for the year ahead. Féile training (born 2011–2014) kicks off on 1 February, with the European Féile taking place in Maastricht this year. We hope to have all other youth teams back on the pitch on Sunday mornings before the end of March. We are also exploring dates to host a Youth Go Games tournament in mid-June and plan to run our Cúl Camp in September.
On the adult side, we’d love to increase Basel participation at European tournaments in both hurling/camogie and football. Zürich has again bid to host a Central East football round, which would be a great opportunity for older youth players transitioning to adult teams. With a growing number of 16+ members, it’s important that they stay connected and continue playing. We encourage adult players to reach out to Seán (Hurling Officer) or Sinéad (Football Officer) to support this transition.
Basel GAA is built on the energy of its players, coaches, and volunteers. Thank you all for the time and effort you give the club, on and off the pitch. If you’re interested in getting involved in coaching or volunteering, please don’t be shy—reach out to any committee member.
We have a lot to look forward to in the year ahead, and I’m excited to continue strengthening our club and community together. I wish you and your families a healthy, happy, and successful New Year, and I look forward to seeing you throughout the season.
